What is 404 Error (Page Not Found)?
If you visit any website and click at any link but you got message from the browser that Requested Page doesn’t Exit “Page Not Found” then it is called 404 Error or Page Not Found Error.
And when user get this message and he/she can left your website page and might be never return, so it directly loss your business and if this error exists in your website in large amount then your website SEO or promotion will affect.
How to handle 404 Error?
To handle all 404 error pages in your website is not an easy task, because for this you have to proper look after, but if your website is big then it becomes more complicated task.
But you can handle your users by the custom 404 error page, here is the step by step guide how to create and manage this error.
I am going to tell you how to set custom 404 error page via .htaccess page?
Step 1. First Create a page in your website (Either it is in html, php, aspx etc.) and set 404.page extension its name.
Step 2. Design this page as user can get option to move your all important pages. (Place all important page links at this page).
Step 3. If at your server .htaccess file is available then download it, sometime it is hidden so you can go to option to show all hidden files in setting of file manager at c panel of your server.
Step 4. Now it’s time to connect the 404 page to the server request, open the .htaccess file and place the given below code:
ErrorDocument 404 /404.html
(You can write the exact 404 page extension, here I written 404.html)
Step 5. Now host the 404 page and edited .htaccess file to the root of the server, and check its working by typing any word after your domain (e.g.; www.kevaljaankari.com/hkhdahdf) you will redirected to the 404 error page.
Now your user will return to your website and search engine never find any 404 error page.
